Illegal Moroccan Immigrant Goes Unnoticed for Week on Bulgarian Bus

An illegal immigrant from Morocco, who entered Bulgaria from Greece, survived on a Bulgarian bus for a week without being noticed, the Interior Ministry announced.

The Bulgarian police were alerted about the case Wednesday morning when they received a call from the technical maintenance staff of a Sofia bus company who noticed a body lying among the seats in the back of a bus brought for inspection.

The police officers who arrived found the man to be alive; the Moroccan is 21 years old, with initials Yu. M.

He told the Bulgarian police that he got on the bus from Athens, Greece, to Sofia a week ago, and has been hiding among the back seats of the vehicle ever since.

The Bulgarian Interior Ministry press center has underscored the fact that nobody apparently paid attention to the man since in the meantime the bus was used for several regular bus line trips between Sofia and the Black Sea city of Burgas.

The Moroccan man has been arrested, and turned over to the Migration Directorate of the Sofia police.
