Manchester United's Dimitar Berbatov scored his first goal for the season as the Red Devils defeated lowly Aldershot Town 3:0 away on Tuesday and avoided a League Cup upset.

Following United's disastrous 1:6 defeat at the hands of archrivals Manchester City, it was Berbatov and Michael Owen that started the game up front.

I took the Bulgarian striker 15 minutes to silence the home audience as he scored from inside the box. Owen and Valencia netted the other two goals against the underdogs, who fought bravely against their prominent opponents.

"Michael Owen, every time he plays he scores. He is a fantastic professional. Berbatov scored a tremendous goal," Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson commented on his forwards' performance.

"It's the difficult thing about having so many good players," Ferguson admitted.

The Bulgarian, who finished the last season as Premiership's join top goalscorer, has been spending most of his time on the bench recently.
