Overnight Shooting Rattles Downtown Sofia

A young man has been shot overnight in the very heart of Bulgaria's capital Sofia – the park in front of the National Ivan Vazov Theater.

The police received a call around 4:30 am that a man is laying on the ground, in front of the theater building in helpless condition. Police officers, who arrived at the scene, established the victim was shot with a gas pistol. The man, 24, is in the hospital in critical condition and his life is in danger.

The area was immediately sealed and three males were arrested for suspicious behavior. The check revealed they all had criminal records. Police believe the physical perpetrator of the shooting is one of the three, identified only as P.N. from Sofia. They confiscated from him the gas pistol, which has been used in the shooting. He is being held behind bars for 72 hours before facing a judge.

The other two have been released.
