17 Bulgarian Traffic Cops Busted for Corruption

Seventeen employees of Bulgaria's Interior Ministry have been detained Tuesday during a 17 special operation codenamed "The Clubs 2."
The operation is targeting corruption at the Interior Ministry and the investigation is continuing with charges pending, the Deputy Sofia City Prosecutor, Roman Vasilev, is quoted saying.
The Interior Ministry's press center further informs the operation is a sequel of operation "The Clubs," which was carried out several months ago - in June, 2011, 10 traffic policemen from the southern city of Pazardzhik were arrested and charged with racketeering drivers on the Trakiya highway.
The current operation is conducted jointly by the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office and the Internal Security Department of the Interior Ministry.
Vasilev says the first operation had a very good disciplining effect on policemen, adding his office is asking all citizens to report corruption cases. He also thanks the Interior Ministry for the effort particularly, because "it is always difficult to proceed against a coworker."
