Pro-Gaddafi Forces Fire 3 Scud-type Missiles Towards Misrata

Forces loyal to Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi fired Monday three Scud-type rockets from the area of Sirte, Gaddafi's home town, toward the coastal city of Misrata in central Libya.

In a media statement distributed by international news agencies NATO termed the the firing of the three missiles"an irresponsible act".

"We confirm reports concerning the firing of three surface-to-surface missiles from the vicinity of Sirte on Monday evening," said NATO Spokeswoman Oana Lungescu.

In her words, the three rockets landed in the coastal area of Misrata without causing casualties.

One week ago, Muammar Gaddafi's forces fired a ballistc Scud missile into rebel-controlled territory.

The Scud was fired from a location about 80 km east of Sirte and landed east of the coastal oil-rich town of Brega, according to reports of Al-Jazeera .
