Kosovo Considers Bulgarian Food in Wake of Serbian Embargo

Kosovo is considering buying food from Bulgaria for some EUR 300 M, according to talks held in Sofia during the visit of Kosovar Minister of Trade and Industry Mimoza Kusari-Lila.

Minister Kusari-Lila met Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture and Foods Miroslav Naydenov and discussed the matter, drawing plans for further measures, such as the elimination of administrative hurdles to trade, as well as a visit of a Bulgarian business delegation to Kosovo.

Kosovo is considering boosting trades with coutries in the region, to make up potential holes in its market in the wake of bilateral trade embargoes with Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Up to now, Kosovo imported goods from Serbia worth some EUR 400 M, 80% of which consisted of foods.

Minister Kusari pointed out that her country could need all types of food from Bulgaria, from grain products and oils to meat.

She said that the prices that Bulgarian produces can offer are attractive for Kosovo, and that the short distance between the two countries is a big plus.

Minister Naydenov recalled that a number of Bulgarian companies are already on the ground in Kosovo and stated that Bulgaria has a strong interest in boosting that partnership.
