Many drivers will have a good reason to get angry at Sofia municipality by the end of the week over the use of spider trucks to remove vehicles from the capital's parks and sidewalks.

The special raid, which was launched on Wednesday, has been organized by the Interior Ministry and the municipality.

Spider trucks will be used to pick up illegally parked cars not only in parks, gardens and on the sidewalks, but along bike lanes as well, including those that do not disturb the traffic flow.

Bulgaria's capital has seen nothing short of a spider trucks invasion since January with a total of 2200 cars picked up and BGN 50 000 collected from fines, official figures show.

A total of 500 cars have been forcibly removed only from the Borisova Gradina park in downtown Sofia since the beginning of the year, according to Sofia mayor Yordanka Fandakova.
