Bulgaria's Tsvetana Pironkova produced a brilliant display on Monday to score a historic victory over Venus Williams at Wimbledon for the second time, making her way to the quarter-finals.

In one of the most fascinating match-ups of the tournament, the Bulgarian top female tennis player clinched her victory against the US star confidently 6:2, 6:3.

Pironkova and Williams faced off after on Friday Pironkova crushed Vera Zvonareva 6-2, 6-3, avenging her loss to Zvonareva at the semi-final of last year's Wimbledon.

Shortly after that on Friday, Venus Williams beat Spain's Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez 6-0, 6-2.

The 23rd-seeded Venus Williams is a five-time winner of Wimbledon, her last title being in 2008; she lost to her sister Serena in the 2009 final.

Venus Williams, however, has only one win against Bulgaria's Pironkova – back in 2005 in Istanbul.

In addition to beating Williams 6-2, 6-3 at the 2010 Wimbledon quarter final, Pironkova also beat her back in 2006 in the first round of Australian Open.

After crushing Venus Williams at Wimbledon for a second consecutive year, Bulgaria's female tennis star Tsvetana Pironkova commented she did not sweat too much scoring the win.

"I beat Venus Williams for a second year in a row. Reaching the quarter-final is a dream come true for me. I felt calm, there was no nervousness that usually grips you at a time like that," Pironkova commented after the match, as cited by Gong.

"I played well, I pressured her as firmly as I could. This is it, anything is possible. I wouldn't say it was hard, I tried to stay concentrated, to think about the next point," she said.

Bulgaria's Pironkova will face Petra Kvitova in the Wimbledon quarter-final on Tuesday.

"I still haven't won against her. I know that it will be hard, but I hope for success," Pironkova declared.
