Car Blast Rocks Moldova's Capital

A car exploded in Moldova's capital Chisinau on Tuesday, severely injuring the Chairman of the country's Tennis Federation, Igor Turcan, the Russian News agency Interfax reports.

There are no other reported injuries, but information arriving from Moldova remains controversial – it was announced earlier that eyewitness have said three people were killed, while the US MSNBC informs Turcan has died hours later from his injuries, citing Eugen Onica, an advisor at the Interior Ministry.

According to other reports, quoting police spokesman Adrian Jovmir, the Federation Chair was hospitalized with serious wounds to his leg after a Lada car with Russian plates exploded as he as he walked out of the Tennis Federation headquarters.

He said to be at risk of losing his leg from the injuries.

Others inform the car exploded as Turcan went in and turned the engine on.

The car has been totaled in the fire and two other vehicles parked nearby were damaged.

Police are investigating whether the explosion was caused by a bomb. Turcan has business interests in Moldova's construction sector.
