The Vienna airport has registered an increase of 3.2% in its profits in 2010, compared to 2009.

The data was reported Thursday by the Bulgarian news agency BTA, citing the Austrian capital airport management.

There is significant increase in the number of passengers serviced by the airport, with the largest one registered for those to and from Eastern Europe, including Sofia, Belgrade, Bucharest, and Moscow.

The total profit amount is EUR 76 M. The airport is on the crossroad between Central and Eastern Europe – the number of passengers with destinations to this region (again Sofia, Belgrade, Bucharest and Moscow) is up nearly 14% while the total number of passengers is up 9%.  The revenues are up by 6% and reached EUR 534 M in 2010.

The operational profit of the airport, however, is up only by 3% - the reason is the shared cost between the airport's operator and its largest customers – the Austrian flag carrier Austrian Airlines and the low-budget NIKI.
