FinMin Invites Disgruntled Bulgarian Carriers to 'Fuel' Talk

The country-wide protests of Bulgarian cargo carriers and shippers, planned for Tuesday, has been canceled, but might resume depending on the outcome of forthcoming negotiations with the cabinet.

The information was reported by the Bulgarian National Radio, BNR.

The reason for the decision is an invitation to representatives of the Bulgarian Union of Cargo Carriers to attend the discussion of the situation with skyrocketing fuel prices in the country, scheduled for Wednesday.

The invitation has been extended personally by Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov.

On Monday, the cabinet decided to have a meeting on the subject at the Council of Ministers between the government and representatives of manufacturers and merchants of fuels. The carriers were not invited at first, which upset them even further.

They say they are ready to resume the protest rallies if not satisfied with the decisions.

The news came on the heels of large scale protests organized by citizens and carrier companies across the country Sunday and Monday over what they say is a cartel blackmail in keeping prices high.
