This has been a joint operation of Bulgaria's Unit for Combating Organized Crime (GDBOP), the Customs Agency and the Prosecutor's Office.

The heroin had been hidden in a suitcase's double bottom. The suitcase belonged to a passenger on the Istanbul - Sofia bus. The bus arrived Saturday at the central bus station of the Bulgarian capital.

4 people have been arrested - the said passenger and three accomplices, who have been waiting for him to receive the package.

The group has been followed for a certain time, and has used the scheme many times, Tsvetanov says, adding the operation was a perfect example of the authorities' fight against heroin traffic.

All 4 have criminal records. The police say that package was destined for another EU country.

The passenger was caught at 10 pm Saturday when he was delivering the package to the other three.
