Bulgaria's Delinquent Power Facilities Start Closing Down

Supplies of coal to the Brikel power plant that is in breach of eco-requirements have been halted by an order of Bulgarian Minister of Environment Nona Karadzhova.

Brikel, together with 4 more heating and electricity facilities mostly owned by notorious businessman Hristo Kovachki, does not comply with EU environmental requirements and had to close down.

This will leave thousands unemployed, who have already protested and requested minister Karadzhova's resignation.

The closure was nevertheless known in advance, as owners of the plants had agreed to either invest to achieve cleaner prodcution or to voluntarily shut them down after a specific period.
