Bulgaria's Maleeva to Play with Boris Becker in Tennis Match

One of the most successful Bulgarian tennis players, Magdalena Maleeva, will play along Boris Becker in a demonstration game in the Bulgarian capital Sofia.

“We will play one game against the winners from the tournament which will take place Saturday and Sunday,” Maleeva said Thursday in an interview for the Bulgarian private TV channel bTV.

She expressed her excitement about the forthcoming game with the German tennis star on August 29.

“After all, it will be a game, a competition and I always want to perform well. I know Becker very little and it will be very interesting for me to meet him,” she said.

She also expressed her belief that despite the difficulties in the Bulgarian tennis, if players are good enough and work hard, they could succeed.

“I am absolutely certain that people can succeed if they are good and if they want to. It is clear that Bulgaria does not have a good program to stimulate the development of tennis. Many things are wrong in Bulgaria and this is one of them,” Maleeva said.

The tennis star has stated that she is following all kinds of tennis tournaments and is very happy with the achievements of the Bulgarian representatives.

Maleeva is famous as a supporter of the environmental-friendly lifestyle and of pure and healthy food. According to her, the implementation of the Bulgarian state standard for foods is a great idea, but she has also stated her concerns.

“It is good to have these standards, but how would the control be implemented? We know that one of the main issues in Bulgaria is corruption. So these inspectors have to be extremely good and not corrupted because there are laws in Bulgaria but nobody respects them,” she said.
