Bulgarian-American Olympic Swimmer Wins US Contest

The Bulgarian swimmer Mihail, aka Mike, Alexandrov, has won a US national swimming contest as a US sports citizen.

Alexandrov, who has a Bulgarian, as well as US citizenship, has won the gold medal at the men's 100m breaststroke in Irvine, California, USA with a time of 1:00.26 min, leaving behind the expected winners Mark Gangloff, a gold medalist at the 2004 Summer Olympics, and Eric Shanteau, another US Olympic swimmer.

The 25-year-old Alexandrov competed for Bulgaria at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics and has 40 national records. However, he changed his competition status in order to be able to swim for the U.S. He became an American citizen in 2006.

According to swimming experts, Mike is the new US favorite in breaststroke for the Olympics in London in 2012.
