To use the report of the European Commission as a reason for attacks among different institutions or for bragging and accusations is another grave mistake, the Chair of the Bulgarian Supreme Court of Cassations (VKS), Lazar Gruev, points out.

Gruev issued Tuesday an official statement on the EC report on Bulgaria's progress in justice and home affairs through the so-called Co-operation and Verification Mechanism (CVM), saying all institutions in Bulgaria are obliged to work as a team so that Bulgarian citizens have the sense of having a strong State, backing them up, whose foundations, as in all democratic societies, are the Law and the independent court system.

The VKS Chair sees the report as realistic and prepared by good partners, correctly reflecting both the progress and the need for more effort on the part of all institutions engaged in the fight against corruption and organized crime.

“We must pay special attention to the recommendations to improve the expert knowledge of magistrates involved in complex organized and white collar crimes,” Gruev points out.

Earlier Tuesday, Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, reiterated his critics towards the country's judicial system, while commenting on the expected EC report.
