Van Rompuy: Establishing Rule of Law in Kosovo EU Priority

The President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy declared Tuesday in that supporting the rule of law is one of the foremost priorities of the EU.

Van Rompuy made that statement in Kosovo main city Pristina, where his short trip to the Western Balkans is wrapping up Tuesday.

The EU president made a visit to the central of EULEX, EU's mission to support state-building in Kosovo. Monday Van Rompuy had deplored recent escalation of violence in northern Kosovo, where there is a significant Serbian minority.

The President of the European Council called for extensive dialogue in Kosovo.

Monday Van Rompuy was in Serbian capital Belgrade, where he met with President Boris Tadi?.

The two expressed their shared view that Serbia has a European future. President Tadi? expressed dissatisfaction at the slow pace of the Serbia's integration in the EU, stating any option other than joining the EU will not prove beneficial for the countries in the Western Balkans.
