Bulgarian PM Honors US Independence Day

Bulgaria highly values the open, substantial and lasting cooperation with the USA on key matters concerning European energy security, wrote Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov Sunday on occasion of the 4th of July.

The Bulgarian prime minister sent an official address to US President Barack Obama for Independence day, expressing his greetings and satisfaction at the breadth and depth of cooperation between the two countries

Apart from energy, Borisov especially stressed on cooperation in areas such as defense, reiterating Bulgaria's commitment to military efforts in Afghanistan. According to the PM, Bulgaria is also interested in the Phased Adaptive Approach to projected US Missile Shield in Europe.

“Our cooperation has now acquired a strategic character,” said Borisov, clarifying that it is “based on common values and interests”.

He stressed that there is “tremendous mutual trust” between the two countries and expressed confidence that Bulgarian relations with the USA will continue to develop for the good of the people of both countries, as well as international peace.

Later Sunday afternoon Borisov will take part in official celebrations for the 4th of July organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria at the American College in Sofia.
