Citizens of the EU countries will be able to enter Serbia only with their ID cards starting June 12.

The statement was announced on Thursday by the Foreign Ministry of Bulgaria and Serbia and is valid also for the Swiss Confederation, the Kingdom of Norway, and Iceland.

In May, at an official meeting with his Serbian counterpart, Ivica Dacic, the Bulgarian Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov said that soon EU citizens will be able to enter Serbia only with ID cards, without having to use passports. Dacic agreed with Tsvetanov and expressed his hope that there will be reciprocity by the EU in terms of liberalizing the visa regime for Serbian citizens.

In April the Serbian government allowed EU citizens to enter the country with their ID cards only as a temporary measure as a result of the volcanic-ash crisis that halted air-traffic through Europe.
