The price of electric power in Bulgaria will, most likely, go up by 5% on average on July 1, according to plans of the State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (DKEVR).

The move comes somewhat as a surprise, since for months now DKEVR have been saying the electricity prices for Bulgarian consumers would not go up, and might even go down slightly.

The price hike for EVN Bulgaria, one of the 3 electric power suppliers, serving the southwestern parts of the country, is estimated at 5.45%. The CEZ power supplier, serving western Bulgaria, will be allowed to increase prices by 5.32% while E.ON, serving northeastern Bulgaria, will have the lowest increase of 4.98%.

Just one day ago, the Bulgarian State gas company Bulgargaz announced it is going to request a substantial raise in price of “at least 23%” before the end of this month.

The DKEVR Head, Angel Semerdzhiev, said earlier that gas prices will go up between 10% and 15% only.

The gas price hike has a direct effect on central heating prices with heating utilities already asking prices that are 10% higher, even before the new gs prices were announced by Bulgargaz.
