The US Ambassador to Sofia, James Warlick, launched Monday the Barbecue Month at the supermarket “Piccadilly.”

Warlick cooked a beef steak from a traditional American recipe and was assisted by star TV Chef, Uti Bachvarov. The two revealed BBQ secrets through culinary demonstrations for a crowd of spectators, gathered around the special stage in front of the supermarket. Warlick and Bachvarov presented recipes for marinated pork chops, a giant burger, caramelized pork ribs, chilly, salmon with salsa and baked-potato mix.

The CEO of the retail chain Piccadilly, Alexander Camparevic, said the store has dedicated the month of May to the BBQ with the goal to present a fun and healthy way to start the summer season, because BBQ is a wonderful way to prepare healthy food and get together with friends and relatives. Camparevic pointed out the attendance of the US Ambassador is a great honor for the company.

In May “Piccadilly” will offer a variety of fresh meat and produce at promotional prices.

The Serbian firm Delta Holding, the majority owners of the Bulgarian retail chain Piccadilly, recently announced they will invest EUR 80 M in Bulgaria this year.

Serbia's largest privately-held company bought a majority stake in Bulgarian retail chain Piccadilly in September 2007 and has so far invested a total of EUR 140 M in Bulgaria, including taking over the remaining 15% percent of shares in 2009.

The chain now has 26 stores in 10 Bulgarian cities and towns – 20 supermarkets and 6 corner-shop stores known as “Piccadilly Express.”

The company plans to expand and introduce all its formats in Bulgaria such as Piccadilly Express, the Tempo hypermarkets – a combination cash and carry and soft discounter, and franchises.
