Serbian Tycoon Miroslav Miskovic Sentenced to Five Years in Jail for Tax Evasion

The Belgrade High Court sentenced Serbian tycoon Miroslav Miskovic to five years in prison for helping his son evade tax payments worth about RSD 320 M (EUR 3 M), Tanjug reported on Monday.

Miskovic, once the richest man in Serbia, will also have to pay a fine of RSD 8 M (EUR 65,000).

The verdict can be appealed with the Belgrade Court of Appeals.

The High Court acquitted Miskovic, 70, on charges of siphoning money from road maintenance companies between 2005 and 2010 over lack of evidence.

His son, Marko Miskovic, has already been sentenced to 3-1/2 years in jail for tax evasion.

Miroslav Miskovic is the owner of Delta Holding company which is active in retail trade, real estate, agriculture and insurance in Serbia and elsewhere in southeastern Europe. Delta Holding, through its subsidiary Delta Maxi, owned Bulgarian retail store chain Piccadilly between 2007 and 2011.
