The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) will air again the video clip titled “If You Vote for Boyko You Will Get Kostov.”
The campaign will be the opposition's response to the ruling Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party anti-crisis measures.
BSP say they want to remind people that their warnings from July 2009, before the general elections, proved to be true and the shadow of the leader of the right-wing Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) and former Prime Minister, Ivan Kostov, is indeed lurking behind the current PM, Boyko Borisov.
The Internet site boykostov.org, featuring an active election anti-campaign against Borisov and Kostov, became notorious in Bulgaria in May, and was later fueled by the airing of the TV clip.
The site, created trough the strict adherence to all "black PR" rules, warned voters that if they "support GERB and Borisov, they would end up with Kostov." It featured the transformation of Borisov's face into Kostov's image, reinforced by the admonition - "if you support Boyko, you will get Kostov." There was another negative slogan ending the clip: "If they win, Bulgaria loses."
BSP initially denied having anything to do with the Black PR, but after an investigative report exposed them, they admitted to have been part of the campaign.
The socialists reiterate Thursday their statement that the best anti-crisis measure of the cabinet would be to remove Finance Minister, Simeon Djankov, over his incompetence and inability to collect revenues for the State. BSP further insist that the GERB cabinet would become the first one to spend the fiscal reserve.
On Wednesday, a draft of anti-crisis measures, allegedly prepared by the government, leaked to the media. The measures, including cutting the paid maternity leave in half and taxing retirement pensions and salaries before deduction of social security payments, caused a wave of outrage in all strata of society.
