Bulgaria's Museum Gallery of Modern Art (MGMI) will present to the public the archetypal pop art symbol - a series of images of Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol.

The gallery announced on Monday that, from Monday, March 22 - the first day of Spring - Bulgarian art-lovers will be able to view together all 10 images of the pop icon.

The work "Marilyn", by one of the founders of pop art, Andy Warhol, is the expression of the artist's discovery that that one and the same image in different colors has a completely different impact on the viewer.

Warhol based his artwork on a photo of Marilyn taken by the famous photographer Gene Kornman from the movie "Niagara" (1953). The serigraphs, using ten color combinations, were created in 1967.

They were originally sold for several hundred dollars. In the late 90s, their price reached USD 125 000. At present, on the global market, a single original serigraph of the "Marilyn" series can command prices between USD 150 - 280 000.

In 2009 Andy Warhol (who died in 1987) was the top best-selling artist and the most expensive in the world.

The Bulgarian Museum Gallery of Modern Art will be focusing during this event on raising funds to establish a Children's Academy of Fine Arts.
