Sofia’s Chief Architect, Petar Dikov, says the “Vitosha Ski” company made a serious mistake by presenting their construction project to the Eco Ministry first instead of the City Hall.

As early as one year ago, environmental organizations in Bulgaria declared that the plan must be first approved by the City Hall and the State Forestry Agency, which manages the park.

Currently “Vitosha Ski” is appealing with the Supreme Administrative Court the refusal of the Environmental Minister, Nona Karadzhova, to accept the project’s eco assessment. The case will be tried in March. If the Magistrates rule in favor of the Ministry, the company will have to correct its plan according to Karadzhova’s recommendation, the “Vitosha Ski” spokesperson said.

The company plans to begin expending the ski zone over the summer, but the trial might postpone the project. The investment is estimated at EUR 70 M.
