As early as next month, the UN Security Council may adopt a resolution for sanctions against Iran as a result of the country starting a process for enrichment of uranium of up to 20%.

This has been stated Saturday by Bulgaria’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Marin Raykov, who also said that the US and EU had invested unprecedented efforts into engaging Iran in responsible negotiations.

“You know that within the 5+1 format the UN Security Council members plus Germany conducted completely responsible talks so that the situation does not slip out of control. But unfortunately the last months of 2009 led to rather disappointing conclusions with respect to the honesty in the framework of the negotiation process,” Raykov stated.

Talking on the Bulgarian National Radio, Iran’s Ambassador to Bulgaria, Gholam Reza Baqeri, explained that the uranium enrichment activity in Natanz was for peaceful purposes, and that no violations have been discovered during the numerous inspections of its Iranian facilities.
