The Ruse district administration has suggested that the eastern section of the Danube Bridge border crossing point be used to set up a joint Bulgarian-Romanian vegetable market.

The proposal was presented Thursday by Ruse District Governor Ventsislav Kalchev, as cited by Radio Shumen and money.bg.

In January 2014, Deputy Agriculture Minister Yavor Gechev announced in Ruse that an initiative was underway to create two joint exchanges on the two bridges between Bulgaria and Romania, one on the Bulgarian side and one on the Romanian side.

Farmers on both sides of the Danube are to be able to sell their agricultural production together.

The exchanges are to start functioning before the end of the programming period.

Gechev noted that the precise location and source of funding of the markets had to be clear by the end of 2014, adding that they would probably use resources of cross-border co-operation programs.
