Starting 8 a.m. on June 1, 2015, toll fees and vignette stickers for trucks at Bulgaria’s Kapitan Andreevo border crossing point will only be paid at a “points of sale” (POS).

Drivers will be able to pay by VISA, Visa Electron, V PAY, MasterCard, Maestro, and Borica debit and credit cards issued by providers of payment services operating on Bulgarian territory, according to a media statement of the Customs Agency.

The fees for trucks with foreign registration plates will continue to be collected in euros, while drivers of trucks with Bulgarian registration plates will continue to pay in Bulgarian leva.

The measure is introduced in a bid to fight corruption at Bulgaria’s border crossing points and to speed up the processing of cargo and to eliminate the fees charged by banks for cash payments of the fees and the bank transfers to the accounts of the Customs Agency.

The other major border crossing points on Bulgarian territory are also to gradually switch to card payments only for toll fees and vignette stickers for trucks.
