Four people were killed in an explosion that ripped the office of insurance company Bul Ins in downtown Sofia on Monday, governmental speaker Dimitar Tsonev said.
The bomb went off at about 12 p.m. and killed the people travelling in the elevator. The bomb has been planted at the shaft of the elevator.
According to unconfirmed reports among the victims of the blast in Sofia insurance company Bul Ins is Stoil Slavov, one of the owners of Interpetrolium and Partners, which is said to have links to the obsolete ex-grouping SIC. He is also believed to have been the target of the assault.
Two of his bodyguards and a woman are reported to have been travelling together with Slavov in the elevator.
The other victims are still to be identified.
The number of those who suffered light and heavy injuries has not yet been announced.
Vassil Bozhkov, Chief of Business club Vazrazhdane and President of Nove Holding is among the owners of the company.
The name of Krassimir Marinov, dubbed the Marguin, known to have been linked to the obsolete ex-grouping SIC, is connected with Bul Ins insurance company, the Bulgarian National Radio reported. According to unofficial information Marinov was not hurt in the blast. It is still unknown whether he was in the building of the office at the time of the blast.
Following the murder of Bulgaria's MG Corporation President Iliya Pavlov in March 2003 Vassil Bozhkov called on the state to take measures for insuring the security of the big businessmen.
The capital of Bul Ins is shared out among 20 companies. Each of them holds a 5% stake. Six of the companies are registered in Cyprus, four in Luxembourg and the others in Bulgaria.
