Reports: 4 Killed in Bulgarian Insurance Company Blast

Four people were killed in an explosion that ripped the office of insurance company Bul Ins in downtown Sofia on Monday, local Info radio reported.

Vassil Bozhkov, Chief of Business club Vazrazhdane and President of Nove Holding is among the owners of the company.

In the words of the Interior Chief Secretary General Boyko Borisov the explosion was caused deliberately and was an assault. He confirmed there were casualties.

The bomb went off at about 12 p.m. and killed the people travelling in the elevator. The bomb has been planted at the shaft of the elevator.

Police has blocked the area.

The name of Krassimir Marinov, dubbed the Marguin, known to have been linked to the obsolete ex-grouping SIC, is connected with Bul Ins insurance company, the Bulgarian National Radio reported. According to unofficial information Marinov was not hurt in the blast. It is still unknown whether he was in the building of the office at the time of the blast.

Following the murder of Bulgaria's MG Corporation President Iliya Pavlov in March 2003 Vassil Bozhkov called on the state to take measures for insuring the security of the big businessmen.

The capital of Bul Ins is shared out among 20 companies. Each of them holds a 5% stake. Six of the companies are registered in Cyprus, four in Luxembourg and the others in Bulgaria.
