Trump on Ukraine: “We Shouldn’t Have Got Involved”

US President Donald Trump has stated that the United States should not have become involved in the war in Ukraine, arguing that the conflict is geographically distant and does not directly concern American interests. Speaking to journalists, he criticized previous US policy, saying that vast financial and military resources had been committed to Ukraine without adequate return or benefit.
Trump claimed that the United States has already spent billions of dollars supporting Kyiv, and specifically referred to an alleged total of around 350 billion US dollars provided under the previous administration. He also said large quantities of ammunition had been transferred as part of this assistance, which he argued has strained US military stockpiles.
According to Trump, the United States is now increasing domestic ammunition production in order to rebuild reserves depleted through supplies sent to Ukraine. He further stated that, unlike earlier policy approaches, his current stance involves selling ammunition rather than providing it unconditionally, with European Union countries covering the costs of such supplies.
He also indicated that he had previously threatened to suspend weapons deliveries to Ukraine under the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) mechanism unless European allies agreed to participate in a broader arrangement linked to reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
