Bulgaria: Radev Handpicks Caretaker Ministers, Borissov Reshuffles GERB LeadershipDomestic | May 10, 2021, Monday // 12:12| views
Just days before the "countdown" to the new parliamentary elections on July 11 begins, answers to two key questions are awaited - who will be the ministers in rumen Radev's cabinet and what the reshuffles will be in the leadership of Boyko Borissov's party. On Tuesday (May 11) the president must appoint a government and the leader of GERB - to announce changes in the Executive Committee of the party.
The appointment of the new panel of the Central Electoral Commission, headed by lawyer Kamelia Neikova, nominee of There Is Such a People, is also expected. Among the biggest challenges is the organization of fully machine voting in the sections with over 300 voters in Bulgaria and the provision of about 500 machines for voting abroad.
Who will be in the caretaker government?
For now, it is known that the caretaker prime minister will be a man (as specified by the president), the most often tipped is the name of the President's Security and Defence Secretary Gen. Stefan Yanev. According to Rumen Radev, the expectations pinned on the caretaker government and its responsibilities are high-wrought and it is "a matter of balance to handpick the best team that will work together in an optimal way so as to accomplish this difficult task".
The government appointed by the head of state is expected to assume office on May 12.
There have been informal comments that the former Deputy Chair of the Bulgarian Socialist Party Denitsa Zlateva, who was in the same position in Radev's first caretaker cabinet, was invited as deputy prime minister, but the party leader Kornelia Ninova announced days ago that the BSP leadership had not given consent for Denitsa Zlateva, Vessela Lecheva and Zhelyo Boychev to take part in the caretaker government.
According to unconfirmed information, two Harvard graduates - the former economy minister in the caretaker cabinet of Marin Raykov - Asen Vasilev, and economist Kiril Petkov - can also participate in the caretaker government. Some of Radev's secretaries and advisers are also expected to be in the cabinet.
