Just a week before the official end of the school year on 14 May, 50,000 school-leavers across the country are bracing up for the prom balls - the outfits have been bought, the restaurants are booked for the end of May, with the option of postponement. According to the latest order of the health minister, on which the celebrations depend, balls will be allowed.

However, there is still a loophole - the caretaker government, which Bulgaria will have within days, can impose new restrictive measures because of COVID-19, explained to Trud daily high school principals from around the country.

"We have scheduled a prom ball for May 25, and the see-off ceremony will be held in the school yard on May 14. But any decision is the last but one now. However, we hope the new government will not change the measures," principal of Sofia 51st Secondary School Asen Aleksandrov said.

Answering Trud’s questions about the prom balls experts of the health ministry explained that till the end of the month the last order of the outgoing minister from April 29 is in force.

And it states that the restaurants operate at 50% of their capacity and with staff wearing masks. In addition, it says that at local level regional governors and mayors may introduce health measures at their discretion.

The text for celebrations with up to 15 people has been cancelled. So students and teachers hope for the green light and to celebrate.

The restaurant-keepers hope the restaurants will not be locked-down again.

"We assume that we will work at 50% of the capacity, with 5-6 people on the table. There must be proms," say restaurant owners.
