Outgoing Health Minister Prof. Kostadin Angelov said at a briefing of the National Operational Headquarters that the morbidity rates in Bulgaria are lower than those in the neighboring countries and at the same time the restrictive measures in Bulgaria are more lenient than in a number of other countries.

He pointed out that the downward trend in the number of newly infected is persistent and thanked all Bulgarian citizens for complying with the measures.

Collective immunity has already been achieved among medical professionals, the health minister said

On a weekly basis, there are 9,774 new cases and more than 17,000 are documented as cured.

Chief Health Inspector Angel Kunchev pointed out that the incidence rate of Covid-19 in Bulgaria is 332 per 100,000 on a two-week basis, which ranks our country 9th in the EU.

In Cyprus, the morbidity rate is four times higher, in Sweden – three times, Kunchev also pointed out.

The health minister also said in that today the orders will be issued for the extension of the emergency epidemiological situation and arrivals from India and some other countries will be banned from entering Bulgaria.

He assured that Bulgaria has sufficient quantities of vaccines and more “green corridors” for vaccination will be opened.

Head of the vaccination task force, Prof. Gigov pointed out that today and tomorrow the number of vaccinated Bulgarian citizens will reach 800,000

Angelov, for his part, said that if these vaccination rates are maintained, herd immunity can be achieved by the end of August at the latest or even earlier.
