Covid-19: New Rules for People Arriving in Bulgaria Since May 1st

From the beginning of May, those arriving in Bulgaria will be able to be released from the mandatory quarantine if they are vaccinated - with two doses for the vaccines of "Pfizer" / "BioNTech", "Modern", "Astra Zeneca" or one for the vaccine of "Jansen"  and present an official certificate to that effect.

The final provision has not yet been published, but according to the request of the Minister of Health, vaccination will be required to be completed at least two weeks before arrival in Bulgaria, because it is believed that then the human body has built a defense.

Quarantine will also be lifted for those who have had SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) if they show a positive PCR or coronavirus antigen test.

The test must be performed no earlier than 14 days before the trip (this is how long the treatment lasts in cases without complications) and no later than six months before the arrival in the country.

An argument for the six-month post-infection limit is that the duration of immunity to the disease is unknown.

The quarantine will be able to be lifted from May 1 with a negative result from certain types of antigen tests.

Until now, it was possible to provide only a negative result from a PCR test, considered the "gold standard" and the most reliable proof if built immunity.

These three conditions for the abolition of quarantine upon entry into Bulgaria were announced by the outgoing Minister of Health Prof. Kostadin Angelov and the Chief State Health Inspector Assoc. Prof. Angel Kunchev at press briefing.

The reason for the decision was the beginning of the tourist season on May 1.
