Bulgaria: There Is Such a People Will Declare Its Intentions after Receiving Mandate to Form Government
Domestic | April 19, 2021, Monday // 13:07| viewsAfter the consultations with President Radev Deputy Chairman of There Is Such a People (ITN) Toshko Yordanov said that the party will announce its intentions after receiving a mandate for forming a government.
"If our party is to form a government at all, it will be with the other two protest parties. So we're going to do what we had promised to do. We don't want to talk in advance about what's going to happen if... or to guess," Toshko Yordanov said.
He reminded that under the Constitution the first mandate will be handed to GERB and again said that ITN will adhere to legal procedures.
The consultations with the second largest group in the parliament were attended by its deputy chair Toshko Yordanov, the Vice President of the Parliament Victoria Vasileva and MP Philip Stanev.
"If the government of GERB-UDF is not supported by the Bulgarian Parliament, should it be proposed at all, you will have to take the responsibility," Radev said at the beginning of the meeting adding:
"Therefore, I hope to hear what are your intentions, your readiness to form a government, under what conditions you would form it, what is your scale of values, your “red lines” in making compromise, and - what is very important - the dialogue, which I hope you have already started with the other parliamentary groups on the terms and form of support for such a government."
"You are acting in full compliance with the law, which is the duty of a presidential institution, and we thank you for it," Toshko Yordanov replied.
"We, as a political force, are also set to behave like that - abide by the Constitution and the existing laws. Yes, the National Assembly has a legislative initiative, it can change the laws and that's its role, but right now the laws as they are will have to be respected by everyone, whether they like it or not," he added.
At the beginning of the consultations both with GERB and with the representatives of ITN, President Radev outlined the challenges the country is facing: the complicated security environment, the pandemic, the economic and social crisis, the timely submission of an effective Recovery and Resilience Plan to the European Commission.
He stressed that the situation necessitates the formation of a stable government and addressed the representatives of ITN, saying: "The eyes of all citizens are on your party," the president said.
