Series of Earthquakes Rock Southern Greece

A series of weak earthquakes were recorded this morning on the Peloponnese Peninsula, southern Greece, ANA-MPA reported.

The strongest was registered at 8:15 a.m. local time. According to the Greek Institute of Geodynamics, it had a magnitude of 3.6 on the Richter scale, and according to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center, of 3.5. Its epicenter was 9 km south of the town of Patras at a depth of 14 km.

As of 5.30am, at least six more tremors of magnitude between 2.3 and 3.1 had been felt in the area, accompanied by a muted roar.

The professor of geology at the University of Patras Eftimios Sokos told ANA-MPA that the area is known for its seismic activity and specialists are monitoring the situation.
