Situation on Bulgarian Roads Remains Complicated after Heavy Snowfalls

All republican roads are passable by vehicles in winter conditions. During the night 425 snowplows were clearing the roads, the snow cleaning equipment is working in 24-hour operating mode, Road Infrastructure Agency reported.

The Agency staff appeal to drivers to set out on a trip in vehicles prepared for winter conditions, to drive at a safe speed in winter weather, to keep distance, not to undertake or make risky manoeuvres, as well as watch out for the snow-cleaning machines.

"Weather conditions are extremely dynamic. Currently, all roads of the national road network are passable in winter conditions," said Head of the Road Infrastructure Agency Georgi Terziiski.

There are restrictions for heavy vehicles over 12 tons along the Petrohan Pass.

The other passages are safe.There was heavy snowfall on the highways at night and in the morning. There were 46 snowplows working on Hemus, 30 in the section stretching from Sofia to the 55th km, 25 on Struma Motorway and 45 on Trakia Motorway, Georgi Terziiski added.

He specified that the chain accident on the Hemus highway this morning hampered the work of the snow removal equipment. "Shortly after it was allowed by the Traffic Police and the participants in the accident were towed away, the snowplows helped resume traffic in a very short time," Terziiski said.
