Croatia is reintroducing some restrictions to combat the spread of COVID-19, after a sharp rise in new cases in recent times has led to an outflow of foreign tourists, the DPA reported.

The new measures will take effect tomorrow and will last at least 14 days.

Cafes and bars will receive visitors only in their open areas, there are restrictions for visitors to weddings.

Following the increase in new cases, a number of countries have included Croatia in their red travel list, which has affected the number of foreign tourists recently and reduced the country's expectations for a good tourist season.

Tourism is the most important sector in Croatia and generates over 20% of the country's economy.

Croatia opened its borders to tourists on July 1st and reported a surprisingly large number of visitors until the recent jump in the newly infected.
