Accommodation and Visits to Nursing Homes in Bulgaria Has Stopped

Accommodation and visits to nursing homes in the country have been suspended. The relatives of the residents can receive information from the directors of the services, as well as from the municipalities that are providers. This was announced by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy.

Frequent disinfection should be performed; employees, residents or visitors with symptoms of acute respiratory diseases should not be allowed to the institutions; frequent ventilation should be performed. Personnel should only work with protective equipment. It is important to provide distance, as well as residents to be separated during meals and other activities with more people involved.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Policy (MLSP) and the Social Assistance Agency (SAA) are ready to assist municipalities in case of established cases of COVID-19 in nursing homes.The Ministry can assist and cover the costs in case of possible relocation of residents to appropriate buildings and their equipment. The so-called COVID-19 standard for strengthening services and providing with disinfectants and protective equipment the homes is being developed. Equipment was additionally provided to the nursing homes in Varna and Ruse immediately after the establishment of the positive samples. Instructions for reorganization of employees in case of shortage in places are going to be issued.

As early as the beginning of the state of emergency on March 13, 2020, the Social Assistance Agency (SAA) prepared and sent instructions to the municipalities on the operation of the services with a special focus on the homes for the elderly. They will be in force until the end of the emergency epidemic situation.
