The Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has introduced changes to the rules for international travel, according to which mandatory quarantine is introduced for passengers arriving from two regions in Bulgaria - the Northeast and the Southwest.

It is envisaged that those arriving from these parts of our country will be placed under a two-week quarantine - at home, if they have a permanent address in Belgium, or at a reception center. These passengers are also subject to mandatory testing for COVID-19, BTA reports.

For those arriving in Belgium from the North Central, South-East and South-Central regions of Bulgaria, the examination and quarantine are recommended. It is forbidden to travel from Belgium to the Northeast and Southwest regions in our country. It is recommended to travel with special attention to the North Central, Southeast and South Central regions in Bulgaria.

Since the beginning of August, Belgium has introduced the obligation for everyone arriving in the country to fill in an online form 48 hours in advance with their personal data and a description of the places they have visited in the last two weeks. This obligation also applies to those in transit through Belgium if their journey takes more than two days.

In connection with the pandemic of COVID-19, as of August 1 this year, the Federal Office for Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation of the Kingdom of Belgium, included parts of Bulgaria in the so-called "Orange zone" and "red zone", namely:

Orange Zone - The trip to Bulgaria / North Central, Southeast, South Central regions / should be done with caution;
Red Zone - Travel to Bulgaria / Northeast and Southwest regions / is not possible or allowed.
All Bulgarian citizens traveling from Bulgaria to Belgium are subject to mandatory quarantine and test if they have resided in the North-East or South-West regions and to recommended quarantine and test if they have visited the North-Central, South-East and South-Central regions.
These rules apply only to non-essential trips, incl. tourist.
