Bulgaria's Government to Give BGN 50 Million for Kindergartens in SofiaEducation | July 31, 2020, Friday // 18:07| views
The Council of Ministers approved an additional transfer in the amount of BGN 50 million from the budget of the Sofia Municipality for 2020 for construction, furnishing and equipment of kindergartens and nurseries, as well as for the purchase of land and properties for the needs of new places in children's institutions on the territory of the municipality.
With the additional funds, new buildings will be built and the capacity of the existing ones will be expanded.
This will create conditions for covering all children of preschool age in kindergartens.
The shortage of places requires the Sofia Municipality to take urgent measures to expand the existing capacity of kindergartens and to build new ones, although it is investing purposefully and consistently in new construction and increasing the building stock. The reason is the continuing influx of young families to the capital as the number of children waiting for admission to kindergartens continues to grow.
The necessary funds are provided by restructuring the expenditures of the central budget for 2020.
In addition, the Council of Ministers approved a Program for construction, extension, superstructure and reconstruction of nurseries, kindergartens and schools for the period 2020-2022.
The indicative budget for the current year is up to BGN 70 million. The same amount of funds are the estimated budgets for each of the next two years (2021 and 2022). The program will finance the construction of facilities that guarantee healthy and quality learning conditions in the system of preschool and school education. It is planned to build new nurseries, kindergartens and schools in the country, as well as to add, upgrade and reconstruct existing ones. This will reduce the shortage of available spots. Preconditions will be created for the successful introduction of compulsory pre-school education for children over 4 years of age.
As a result of the implementation of the program, more schools are expected to switch to single-shift education.
The implementation of the program will be monitored and coordinated by the Ministry of Education and Science. / vesti.bg
