Bulgarian Health Minister: Additional BGN 250 Million for Healthcare, 30% Increase in Doctors' Salaries

"By the end of 2020, an additional financial resource in the amount of over BGN 250 million will enter the Bulgarian healthcare system.
There will be a 30% increase in the salaries of first-line medics in the fight against COVID-19 from August 1 until the end of the year. This will reflect on 6,000 people. "This was stated by the Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Kostadin Angelov.

Funding will be provided for the equipment of the health system. It will be for the purchase of equipment, as well as for personal protective equipment and disinfectants, it became clear during a briefing at the Ministry of Health.

"There will be an increase in the funds under Ordinance 3. BGN 11.3 million will be allocated - 9.5 million of them will be for 44 hospitals with structures in which patients with infectious diseases are treated, including those with COVID- 19 ", Angelov added.

"By the end of the year, BGN 19 million will be allocated for the municipal hospitals, which will be distributed among over 70 medical institutions," he added.

There will be an increase in clinical pathways by an average of 10%. "There is extreme underfunding on some pathways, where this percentage will be higher, and in the better funded - lower," explained the Minister of Health.

Tourist vouchers worth BGN 210 are also granted to the medics on the first line in the fight against COVID-19. "They will provide 7 nights in state structures in the tourism system. This will cost BGN 15 million," he said.

"So far, the Ministry of Health has purchased 317 devices for respiratory resuscitation. They are to be distributed among university hospitals. 133 such devices for municipal hospitals will also be purchased," Kostadin Angelov said.

By the end of the year, the NHIF will allocate an additional BGN 126 million, which will be enough to increase by 10% all activities related to the treatment of patients in medical institutions./Nova TV
