Serbia Threatens Serbs with Prison if They Decide to Join Kosovo Army

Director of Serbia’s Office for Kosovo, Marko Djuric, called on Kosovo Serbs not to join the Army of Kosovo, and citing Serbian legislation he threatened local Serbs of severe punishments up to 10 years imprisonment, if they decide to become part of future army of Kosovo, Gazeta Express writes.

Djuric said that creation of Kosovo Army is illegal and in violation with the UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and the Kumanovo Agreement that ended Kosovo war in 1999, and is against interests of the state of Serbia. Djuric said that Srpska List, a political entity representing Serbs in Kosovo, which is opposing establishment of Kosovo Army, has full support of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and the Government of Serbia.

Kosovo is making efforts to transform the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) into Army of Kosovo through constitutional amendments. In order for Kosovo to amend its Constitution the vote of Serbian MPs is crucial. Srpska List as the only political force representing Serbs in Kosovo Parliament and Government is strongly opposing the creation of Kosovo Army.
