New energy trends are gaining strength in Europe, including rising investments in wind power. Belgium, for example, plans to double its offshore wind farms, while Denmark plans to build enough turbines to feed its seven largest cities.

A few days ago, the Belgian government announced it would allocate another large area near the French waters to build new wind farms after 2020.

Belgium currently receives only 870 megawatt hours of its four offshore parks but plans to reach 2.2 gigawatt hours by 2020 and 4 gigawatts by 2030.

Denmark also has large-scale plans in the sphere. Energy Minister said on Monday that the country wants to open one of the world's largest wind farms.

"We are talking about a very, very large park that will play a central role in achieving our goal by 2030 that at least half of the energy consumed in Denmark comes from sustainable sources," he said.

According to him, the park will be 50 km inland and will generate enough energy to feed the seven largest cities in the country. It is expected to have between 50 and 75 turbines, but more detailed plans are not yet prepared.
