Bulgarians are the Last in the EU when it Comes to Spending Money on Books

Bulgarians and Greeks are the European citizens who spend the least money on books and newspapers. This shows Eurostat statistics released on the occasion of the World Book Day, April 23rd.

The figures are for 2016 and show that only 0.6% of the expenses of Bulgarian and Greek households go to books and printed publications. In total, all European citizens have spent 90 billion euros on books, newspapers and magazines or on average 1.1% of their costs.

The largest share of book spending in Slovakia is 2.1% of all household spending. Germany is second with 1.6% and Poland with 1.4%. In Bulgaria and Greece, the percentage is 0.6. It is slightly higher in the Czech Republic, Spain and Malta - 0.7 per cent.
