A subscription for the holding of a local referendum began in Burgas. The reason - several serious cases of air pollution of the city since the beginning of the year.

According to the initiative committee, residents have the right to decide on the activities of the Kronospan Burgas plant. Organizers say the wood processing plant is one of the potential pollutants of the seaside city.

After a series of smell signals, the Regional Environmental Inspectorate imposed a sanction on its owners.

To hold a local referendum, at least 10,000 votes are needed.

Kronospan called the launch a "direct attack". In an official statement from the company, they also do not understand how the organizers "declare their ambitions to ban a company with more than 20 years of history in the city, to destroy the livelihood of 400 Burgas families and at the same time to announce that they want a prosperous and successful Burgas."
