Drivers who violate traffic rules face stricter sanctions. The new Ordinance provides for higher fines and more subtracted points.

For wrong overtaking - something the road police have been fighting for years, ten points will be subtracted from the driver’s record instead of eight, as it was so far. The measure will, however, be imposed if it is found that the situation created a hazard for the traffic and the other participants in it.

Wrong-way driving is already penalized by substracting ten points. In the event of repeated offence, the traffic police will take 12 points from the driver's record. It is interesting to note that the same sanction also applies if the driver is driving against the direction of the traffic on a motorway.

The "Stop" sign and the rule that drivers should stop whether there are cars and pedestrians around or not, is ther first things every future driver needs to learn. It turns out, however, that this sign is often overlooked or ignored. Eight points will be subtracted from the record of any non-compliant driver.

There are also changes in terms of the number of points. The amendment to the Ordinance provides for young drivers to receive the maximum number of points, which is 39, two years after they received driving license.

There is also an option for their recovery. Drivers need to go through additional training. An important condition, however, is that it should not be more than once a year. Another requirement is that the driver should have paid fines within one month of the entry into force of the penal decree.
