Macedonian lawmakers approved a bill by which Albanian became the second official language in the country, Channel 5 announced. The vote was held today in the Macedonian Parliament. 64 MPs supported the bill.

No MP has voted against the motion. The amendments proposed by the opposition VMRO-DPMNE have not been addressed. Former Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski was angry at the decision not to examine the amendments and threw a glass of water on Parliament Chairman Talat Xhaferi.

Opposition supporters protested against the law before the parliament. Earlier this year, Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov announced that he would not sign the bill and that it was put back for review by MPs.
