More than 20,000 people were evacuated in the Italian town of Fano on the Adriatic coast after an unexploded World War II missile was discovered during a construction project, Radio Television News reported.
 
Authorities evacuated people from all residential homes and public buildings, as well as from the local hospital.

The train station is temporarily closed, located about 2 km from where the projectile is located.
 
A bomb disposal operation has begun and is to be detonated on the high seas, ANSA reported.
